For 2026 CMS has implemented a new rule for Special

For 2026 CMS has implemented a new rule for Special Supplemental Benefits for the Chronically Ill. Carriers are required to verify that a beneficiary has a qualifying chronic condition to be eligible for supplemental monthly food cards if the plan offers SSBCI benefits.
This will mostly likely impact folks on D-SNP plans (or dual special needs plans for those eligible for Medicare and Medicaid that had previously qualified for this food benefit by way of income threshold only.
