when can i apply?

The open enrollment period happens every year between November 1st through January 15th. You may also have a qualifying life event to provide a special enrollment period during the year.

who qualifies for tax credits?

Anyone that does not have access to health insurance through employment, state or federal benefits (like Medicaid or VA benefits). Based on where you live, your annual income, and number of people in your household you may qualify for advanced premium tax credits and cost-sharing reductions to subsidize the premium on your health insurance. The marketplace uses the federal poverty level as a basis for tax credits. Individuals and families with an annual income of 100%-400% of the federal poverty line (FPL) qualify for a tax credit. North Carolina residents with an income below 138% FPL now qualify for Medicaid as of 12/1/2023.

Members of your family may also qualify for a subsidized marketplace plan if you have employer group coverage that is does not meet an affordability test. Call 704-773-3033 to learn more.

How are tax credits calculated

The marketplace uses the federal poverty level as a basis for tax credits. Individuals and families with a total adjusted gross income of 100%-400% of the federal poverty line (FPL) qualify for a tax credit.

North Carolina residents with an income below 138% FPL now qualify for Medicaid as of 12/1/2023.

Members of your household may also qualify for a subsidized marketplace plan if the group plan that is available to them or their spouse does not meet an affordability test.
